Ed Sheeran Deletes His Twitter Account After ‘Game of Thrones’ Cameo Gets Mixed Reaction

While some people were delighted to spot music star Ed Sheeran in Sunday night's Game of Thrones season seven premiere, others were less enthusiastic, arguing that the singer's cameo struck a jarring note in the show's fantasy world.

And after the episode two trailer hinted that Arya (Maisie Williams) would shortly be reuniting with her direwolf Nymeria, some even expressed the uncharitable hope that the giant wolf would soon be eating Sheeran.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the singer has now deleted his Twitter account, without offering any explanation to his fans.

Earlier this month, after he grew frustrated with some of the negative online reaction to his (generally very well received) Glastonbury Festival headline performance, Sheeran said that he would no longer be posting on Twitter, although he intended to leave his feed open to his 19 million plus followers. Instead, he planned to communicate with his fans through Instagram.

Now, however, the 26-year-old seems to have decided that Twitter is simply more hassle than it's worth.

Some have also suggested that he may have been motivated by the publication of a Buzzfeed article, 24 Tweets Ed Sheeran Will Probably Delete Soon, although there is no evidence that the singer has actually seen the piece.

The article in question contains screenshots of some mildly crass historic tweets from Sheeran, most of which date back to 2010 (the year he turned 19), 2011 and 2012.

Meanwhile, in other Sheeran-cameo-related news, the singer also recently announced that he will be appearing, in cartoon form, in The Simpsons.
